The renter is responsible for any parking or traffic violations incurred during the rental period.
Why you should pay parking or traffic fines promptly:
Parking tickets are linked to the vehicle, not the driver, so the rental company will always be notified if a fine remains unpaid. Paying the fine as soon as possible reduces the likelihood of additional charges or administrative fees being added by the rental company.
Most tickets include instructions outlining several payment methods, typically online or by telephone. Where possible, we recommend using one of these methods before returning the vehicle. Be sure to keep proof of payment in case you need to dispute any subsequent charges.
If you receive a fine while driving a rental car abroad, local authorities can still trace it back to the rental company. Unpaid fines are usually forwarded to the rental provider, who will charge the amount to your credit card along with an administration fee.
Outstanding fines and administration fees may eventually be referred to a debt collection agency. In some cases, you may also be placed on the rental company’s “Do Not Rent” list. It is therefore strongly advised to settle any fines promptly.
If you are unable to pay the fine before returning the vehicle:
The rental company’s violations team will settle the fine and charge the amount, together with an administration fee, to the credit card used for the booking.
